Richard was born in 1818 and his baptism took place on January 8th, 1818 in Rudgwick, Sussex.1  Richard's father was Richard Steere and his mother was Mary steer. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Richard, James, William, Alfred, Mary, Sarah, Ann, Amelia, Mary, Caroline and Eunice.  He was the third youngest of the twelve children.
