Caroline was born in 1820 and her baptism took place on July 30th, 1820 in Rudgwick, Sussex.1   Caroline's father was Richard Steere and her mother was Mary steer. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Richard, James, William, Alfred, Richard, Mary, Sarah, Ann, Amelia, Mary and Eunice.  She was the second youngest of the twelve children.
