Stephen was born in 1863 and his baptism took place on November 1st, 1863 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.1   Stephen's father was Mark Steer and his mother was Eliza Harwood.  His paternal grandparents were James Steer and Rebecca Miram. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Frank, Harry, Frederick, William, Alfred, Annie, Jane and Kate.  He died at the age of 2 in 1865.  The funeral took place on November 11th, 1865 in Wisborough Green.2
