Kate was born in 1866 in Bramley.1   Kate's father was Stephen Steer and her mother was Sarah.  Her paternal grandparents were John Steer and Eliza steer. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Frederick, George, Albert, Alice and Annie.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
