George was born in 1856 and his baptism took place on July 2nd, 1856 in Rudgwick, Sussex.1  George's father was George Steer and his mother was Miriam Dinale.  His paternal grandparents were John Steer and Eliza steer. He had four brothers and six sisters, named William, Walter, Edward, Mark, Eliza, Miriam, Rhoda, Kate, Alice and Ellen.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
