Arthur's father was Richard Steer and his mother was Mary Mitchell.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Steer and Sarah steer. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Frederick, Fanny, Eliza and Emmeline.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1852.  He was buried on February 28th, 1852 in Fittleworth Sussex.¹
