Thomas was born about 1842 in Heaton, Staffordshire.1   Thomas' father was Steers and his mother was Martha STEERS. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, William, George H, Martha, Hannah, Ruth and Morton J.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
