Robert was born about 1882 in Skelton, Yorkshire.1   Robert's father was Harry STEER and his mother was Ann STEER. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Sidney, Ernest E, Avril, Maud, Harriet and Elizabeth J.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
