Avril was born about 1878 in Guisbrough, Yorkshire.1   Avril's father was Harry STEER and her mother was Ann STEER. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Robert, Sidney, Ernest E, Maud, Harriet and Elizabeth J.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
