Maud was born about 1884 in Skelton, Yorkshire.1   Maud's father was Harry STEER and her mother was Ann STEER. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Robert, Sidney, Ernest E, Avril, Harriet and Elizabeth J.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
