John was born about 1875 in Crediton Devon.1   John's father was Robert STEER and his mother was Eliza STEER. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Robert, Louis, George, Emma, Eliza, Alice, Ellen, Edith, Bessie and Florence.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.
