Parish Register of St Mary, Westerham: Baptism 5 January 1704/05Henry, Father John STEER, Farmer, Of the town part.Beneficiary of his Grandfathers Will made 1704 and proved in1708.Beneficiary of his Mother's Will made 1739 proved 1742. Executorbut as he was living in Lisbon carried out by sister Elizabethas Attorney.The two sale notices for 1745 show Henry Steers as Proprietor ofWesterham Parsonage, responsibility for which had come to him asthe Executor of his mother's will proved on 14 July 1742, atwhich time Henry was living in Lisbon. As both he and hisyounger brother William had businesses elsewhere, they made thedecision to sell the Parsonage, although we do not know whatarrangements were made to provide accommodation for their foursurviving unmarried sisters. In about 1748 Henry returned toLisbon with the Parsonage unsold. When Henry returned to Englandhe advertised the Parsonage for sale on 24 Oct 1758, using theaddress Featherstone Buildings, Holborn.Beneficiary of his sister Elizabeth's Will made 1761 and proved1767.Beneficiary of his sister Mary's Will made 1769 and proved 1770.My direct ancestor was Henry Steers who died 2 May 1772. MrHenry Steers late an eminent Lisbon merchant died on 2 May 1772after a long and painful illness; reported in several Londonpapers (Bingley's Journal; London Evening Post; PublicAdvertiser).
