Harriett was born about 1870 in Thorpe, Yorkshire.1   Harriett's father was Thomas STEER and her mother was Emma Sanderson.  Her maternal grandfather was Ambrose SANDERSON and her maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. She had four brothers and a sister, named Samuel, Albert E, Thomas, Joseph H and Hannah.  She was the oldest of the six children.
