Daniel was born about 1889 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire.1   Daniel's father was Richard STEER and his mother was Jane B STEER. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Archibald, Phillip, Harry, Thomas, Mary, Edith and Jenny.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
