Arthur was born about 1869 in Hackney.1   Arthur's father was Thomas STEARS and his mother was Eliza STEARS. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Charle, Bertie, Joseph, Amelia, Agnes and Alice.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
