William Henry Hornby 
William was born in 1856 in Claughton, Bidston, Cheshire and his baptism took place on November 11th, 1856.1 William's father was Philip Steer and his mother was Emma Harrison. His paternal grandparents were Philip Steer and Mary Ann Cutmore. He had a brother and a sister, named Philip and Catherine. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 82 on May 31st, 1938 in St John’s Wood, London.1 General Notes
William Henry Hornby Steer was admitted pensioner at St John’s College, Cambridge, 7th October 1875. He attended Hereford Cathedral School (Mr Rudd). Matriculated Michaelmas 1875 : B.A. 1885 : M.A. 1889 : ordained Deacon at Canterbury 1886 : ordained Priest 1889 : Curate of Christ Church, Tunbridge Wells, Kent 1886-92 : Domestic Chaplain to the Countess of Rothes 1891-93 : Curate of St Jude's, South Kensington 1892-98 : Vicar of St Philip's, Lambeth 1898-1910 : Vicar of All Saints, St John's Wood, 1910-1921 : Justice of the Peace for London : Chaplain of the Order of St John of Jerusalem from 1925.
