Philip Sture
Philip was born before 1751 and his baptism took place on November 25th, 1751 in
Woodleigh.
1 Philip's father was
Henry Sture and his mother was
Anne Whiteway. His paternal grandparents were
George Sture and
Sarah Foale. He had two brothers named
Henry and
George. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died in 1827. He was buried on July 24th, 1827 in
Halwell, Devon.

Death Notes
Gravestones at Halwell are about 120 feet to the north of the east end of the church on a steep bank and read as follows :- Sacred to the memory of Philip Steer of Bickley, who departed this life the 20th day of July 1827 aged 77 years : also Mary, the wife of Philip Steer, who departed this life the 20th day of August 1837 aged 82 years : also Ann Ford, the daughter of Philip and Mary Steer, who departed this life the 20th day of May 1832 aged 51 years
Will of Philip Sture
In the name of God Amen, I Philip Steer of Bickleigh within the parish of Halwell in the County of Devon, Gentleman, do make this my last Will and Testament - I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary Steer the sum of Six Hundred Pounds - I give and bequeath unto my son Henry the sum of Four Hundred Pounds and unto my son Philip the sum of Five (sic!) Pounds - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah the sum of Two Hundred Pounds and unto my daughter Susanna Parnell the sum of One Hundred Pounds and unto my daughter Betsey Foale the sum of One Hundred and fifty Pounds and unto my daughter Mary Moysey the sum of Five (sic!) Pounds, All which said several Legacies together with all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid by my executor within twelve months from the time of my decease And I direct that my executor hereinafter named and appointed shall stand possessed of the sum of Two hundred pounds in trust to pay the Interest thereof unto my Daughter Ann Ford during her lifetime, and after her decease to pay the Interest thereof unto John Ford her Son until he shall attain his age of twenty one years, and when and as soon as he shall attain that age to pay over to him the said sum of Two hundred pounds. And I do hereby direct that such legacies as shall be paid to such of my Daughters as shall be married shall be paid to them for their sole and exclusive use and that their respective receipts shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executor - All the rest residue and remainder of my personal Estate as well as all my messuages lands and tenements whatsoever and wheresoever I do hereby give and devise and bequeath unto my son William Steer his heirs executors administrators and assigns agreeable to the Nature of such Property and I do hereby appoint him sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby charge my real Estate with such of the before mentioned legacies as well as with the payment of such of my just debts as my personal estate shall be insufficient to pay - In Witness whereof I the said testator Philip Steer have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of December One Thousand eight hundred and twenty four. Philip Steer of Bickleigh died on 24th June 1827 and this will was sworn to on 31st October 1828 by the executor, William Steer of Grimpstone in Halwell, yeoman.
