William was born on November 24th, 1822. William's father was Benjamin Brokenshire and his mother was Dorothy.  His paternal grandparents were John Brokenshire (Brokensher) and Amy. He had a brother and three sisters, named Samuel, Mary, Amelia and Emma.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
