Mary was born about 1817.1  Mary's father was Benjamin Brokenshire and her mother was Dorothy.  Her paternal grandparents were John Brokenshire (Brokensher) and Amy. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, Samuel, Amelia and Emma.  She was the oldest of the five children.
