Olive's father was William Saunders Brokenshire and her mother was Catherine Philip Putt. Her paternal grandparents were William Sanders Brokenshire and Alice Ann Tuckett. She had five brothers and a sister, named Harry, John, Ernest, Sanders, Harry Putt and Alice. She was the oldest of the seven children.
