Benjamin's father was Daniel Shambrook and his mother was Maria Lane.  His paternal grandparents were James Shambrook and Elizabeth Bent. He had four brothers and six sisters, named William, Daniel, Joseph, David, Ann, Maria, Mary, Rebecca, Eliza and Charlotte.  He was the youngest of the eleven children.
