Helen was born in 1862 in Shoreditch, Middlesex.¹

Helen's father was David Jenkins and her mother was Frances (Fanny) Sarah Wood. Her paternal grandparents were John (James) Jenkins and Jane Morgan (of Shoreditch); her maternal grandparents were George Wood and Sophia Eliza Otway David (W Ham). She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Henry, Walter, Arthur, David, Clara and Jane. She was the second oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 77 on October 13th, 1939.
