Sarah was born in 1841 and her baptism took place on October 24th, 1841 in Northwold, Norfolk.¹

Sarah's father was Henry Clarke and her mother was Elizabeth Gibson.  Her paternal grandparents were John Clarke and Hannah Flatt; her maternal grandparents were Jacob Gibson and Elizabeth Bray. She had two brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Ann, Rebecca and Martha.  She was the second oldest of the six children. She had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Henry, William, Robert, Rebecca, Rebecca and Sarah.
