Alfred's father was Job Beaven and his mother was Jane Long.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mitchell and Betty dJoshua Beaven.  Jane d.Joshua Beaven was his grandmother through his father's adoption. He had a brother and a sister, named George and Caroline.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had five half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Nathaniel, Job, Mark, Luke, Hannah, Jane and Eliza.
