Hannah was born in 1859 in Gillfitts, Yorkshire. Hannah's father was Joseph WHITAKER and her mother was Harriot.  Her paternal grandmother was Elizabeth WHITAKER. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Elijah, James, John, Mary and Ellen.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
