Joseph was born in 1822 in Cumberworth, Yorkshire. Joseph's mother was Elizabeth WHITAKER. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Jones, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah and Martha.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 53 in 1875.
