Marguerite, known as Mary, was born on September 14th, 1855 in Les Fotaines, Guernsey and her baptism took place on September 23rd, 1855 in The parish church of St. Sampson.1 2   Her godfather was Daniel de Garis and her godmother was Marie Martel and Marie Ogier. Mary's father was Peter (Pierre) Ogier and her mother was Elizabeth (Betsey) Langlois.  Her paternal grandparents were Jean Ogier and Marie (Mary) Trachi; her maternal grandparents were James and Elizabeth. She had a brother and seven sisters, named Peter, Betsey or Betsy, Marie, Mary, Julie, Martha, Louise and Emma.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.
