James Woodward had a house and land in Liverpool Road, Neston in 1834, recorded in the poll book.
In 1841, James was 47, living a Meadow Cottages, Neston (near the Liverpool Road) and was still there in 1851
In 1851 James a School Master and Jane (57 & 69) were at Meadow Cottage with Mary Nevett (50), a visitor. James a master mariner and Isabella Seddon (45 & 46) and family were also living at Meadow Cottage.
In 1864, James Woodward (aged about 70) who was an actuary for the Neston Savings Bank was charged with forgery, embezzling £3000 from the Bank. The courthouse was packed with customers of the bank concerned about their savings. James was a short man, well dressed with a grey beard. £200 had been credited to his nephew Joseph Woodward, a Gardener of Neston. His wife (Jane) aged 84 was still living and his only son (Henry) was a clergyman.
James was convicted and sentances to 5 years penal servitude at Chester assizes..
In 1881 James and Jane (66 & 79) were still living on the Liverpool Road, James a teacher
