Charles' father was Nathan Wood and his mother was Margaret Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Nathan, John, John, Betty and Maria.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven known children.
