John was born in June 1759 in Shotton and his baptism took place on June 24th, 1759 in Hawarden.1  John's father was John Williams and his mother was Elizabeth Evans. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Edward, Elizabeth, Ann, Sarah, Mary, John and Margaret.  He was the third oldest of the nine known children.
