Jonas was born in October 1860 in Yorkshire.1  Jonas' father was John Whitehead and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Boothroyd. He had a brother and five sisters, named Tom, Rachel, Eliza, Martha, Sarah and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the seven known children.
