Ann was born in November 1856 in Bolton and her baptism took place on November 30th, 1856 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Ann's father was Walter Welsby and her mother was Maria Bolton.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Bolton and Mary Whitaker. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Josiah, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann.  She was the youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 15 in June 1872 in Bolton.3
