John was born in July 1769 in Warrington and his baptism took place on July 9th, 1769 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  John's father was John Wainright and his mother was Margaret Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ellen Blinstone. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, Charles, Alice, Alice, Margaret and Martha.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
