Nancy was born in 1834 in Breightmet.1  Nancy's father was Jonathan Twist and her mother was Ann (Nancy) Lomax.  Her maternal grandparents were Joshua Lomax and Anne (Nancy) Wood. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joshua, Peter, Susannah, Mary, Sarah and Deborah. She had an adopted brother named Adam.
