Charles' father was Randle Tomlinson and his mother was Martha Cartwright.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Tomlinson and Mary. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Randle, Thomas, Mary and Margaret.  He was the youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 46 in May 1844 in Malpas.  He was buried on May 28th, 1844 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).¹
