Betty was born in April 1760 in Halliwell and her baptism took place on April 17th, 1760 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Betty's father was John Thornley and her mother was Alice Boardman. She had two brothers and a sister, named Samuel, John and Alice.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
