Mary was born in 1890. Mary's father was John Samuel Taylor and her mother was Eliza Ann Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Harriet Horrocks. She had two brothers and a sister, named John, Albert and Lydia. She was the youngest of the four children.
