Emily's father was William Taylor and her mother was Catherine O'Boyle. She had three brothers and a sister, named Samuel, William, Thomas and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the five children. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named George, Ellen, Louisa and Sarah.
