Joshua's father was Joshua Stocks and his mother was Mary Brook.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Stocks and Elizabeth Bingley. He had three sisters named Bettie, Martha and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 66 in May 1794 in Kirkheaton.  He was buried on May 2nd, 1794 in Kirkheaton.²
