Abraham was born in November 1860 in Marsden.1  Abraham's father was John Slater and his mother was Elizabeth Brown.  His paternal grandparents were Michael Pickles and Jane Slater. He had two sisters named Mary and Alice.  He was the oldest of the three known children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Thomas, Nathan, Ambrose, Jane, Betty, Sarah and Ann.
