Sidney was born in July 1896 in Huddersfield.1   Sidney's father was Henry Shaw and his mother was Elizabeth Kaye.  His paternal grandparents were Alfred Shaw and Ellen Smith; his maternal grandparents were William Kaye and Elizabeth Wood(?). He had two brothers and two sisters, named George, Fred, Annie and Dorothy.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 68 on September 27th, 1964 in Eastbourne.2
