Annie's father was Henry Shaw and her mother was Elizabeth Kaye. Her paternal grandparents were Alfred Shaw and Ellen Smith; her maternal grandparents were William Kaye and Elizabeth Wood(?). She had three brothers and a sister, named George, Sidney, Fred and Dorothy. She was the oldest of the five children.
