Sarah's father was John Scrivens and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Banks. Her maternal grandparents were Philip Banks and Sarah Bolton. She had three brothers and a sister, named James, William, Thomas and Elizabeth. She was the youngest of the five children. She died in 1871 in Padiham.¹
