Elizabeth's father was John Scrivens and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Banks. Her maternal grandparents were Philip Banks and Sarah Bolton. She had three brothers and a sister, named James, William, Thomas and Sarah. She was the fourth oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 26 in December 1891 in Padiham.²
