Sarah was born in January 1841 in Tattenhall.1  Sarah's father was James Richards and her mother was Mary Timmis.  Her maternal grandparents were Ann Timmis and John Tushingham. She had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Ann and Jane.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
