Thomas' father was Michael Pickles and his mother was Margaret. He had four brothers and three sisters, named David, Henry, Joseph, Benjamin, Isabel, Hannah and Nancy.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 68 in March 1835 in Foulridge.  He was buried on March 12th, 1835 at St. Bartholomew's (Colne).
