Jane was born in 1751 in Shocklach and her christening took place there on May 21st, 1751.1  Jane's father was Charles Phythian and her mother was Anne Falconer. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Paul, Thomas, Charles, Charles, Thomas, Mary, Anne and Margaret.  She was the seventh oldest of the ten children.
