Charles was born in 1755 in Shocklach and his christening took place there on May 16th, 1755.1  Charles' father was Charles Phythian and his mother was Anne Falconer. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Paul, Thomas, Charles, Thomas, Mary, Anne, Jane and Margaret.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
