Johann was born on September 11th, 1842 in Uelzen and his baptism took place there on September 13th, 1842.1  Johann's father was Jürgen Heinrich Niemann and his mother was Catharine Dorothea Röber.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Hinrich Niemann and Sophia Dorothea Niemann. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jürgen, Jürgen, Jürgen, Catharine and Catharine.  He was the youngest of the six children.
