Catharine was born on January 4th, 1836 in Uelzen and her baptism took place there on January 10th, 1836.1  Catharine's father was Jürgen Heinrich Niemann and her mother was Catharine Dorothea Röber.  Her paternal grandparents were Johann Hinrich Niemann and Sophia Dorothea Niemann. She had four brothers and a sister, named Jürgen, Jürgen, Jürgen, Johann and Catharine.  She was the oldest of the six children.
